Damone and I have been happily married since January 2002 in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple, where we were sealed for time and all eternity. Our most treasured and sacred moments have been shared with our beautiful children- Lydia, Kyler, Cooper, Maloree, and Lincoln. They are our greatest blessings and truly make life worth living.

Dove

I wanted to share an amazing website and foundation dedicated to reviewing movies so that people can make an informed decision whether or not to see a movie. Dove.org  They list anything and everything you would potentially find offensive or inappropriate from language to violence to nudity even down to disrespect dialogue between parent and child or name calling. It's great and it's saved us from wasting time and money from going to the theater only to be disappointed. I'm the first to admit that I've been to movies before where I probably should have got up and left but then you start justifying why it's okay to stay (they only said it once, I already paid, blah blah blah). That's what I love about going to Dove first, it saves me from regret. If I've read the movies says the "F" word or has nudity etc how I can I justify going?

Try it out, you'll never view a movie the same and you better question yourself and your standards if you choose not to check it out because of that. :)

Check for the symbol on rental movies.

I seriously cried tears of joy

I just visited our local neighborhood walmart in Murphy, TX they had their cosmopolitan magazines covered! Did your hear me? Walmart had them covered! I cannot tell you how stressful and upsetting my shopping experiences have been when myself as well as my children are forced to look at these while waiting in line to check out. I have talked with many managers, made many phone calls and talked with local workers from the National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families. This is a step in the right direction, the covers were in the shape of a "u" covering the words/articles. The next step would be to have covers that completely cover the words as well as the pornographic pictures, leaving only the title of the magazine visible.  Everyone, please check your stores to see if they too have them covered and send them some positive feedback. Click on the link, I've made it easy and it only takes a few minutes.

I know that Walmart has teamed with Proctor and Gamble to bring family friendly movies to television and really hope that they are taking that movement to their stores too.

Take A Stand -Spread The Word!!

Ever since my experience at Bath and Body Works, I am on a mission to make a difference. The first thing I want to see change, are the magazines that are placed in the checkout lanes of our shopping stores. Have any of you been offended when your waiting in line to buy "bread" and right there at you and your kids eye level are sexually explicit and immoral magazines? I don't appreciate the store dictating what my children and I will see. I have spoken to my local Walmart and Target store managers about this issue (please do the same!) and would like to share with all of you.

Walmart: The managers were very respectful and even offered some of their own solutions. I first offered them to ask the vendors to place covers in front of such magazines (black plastic covers hide the whole magazine except for the title), they had never heard of those before and said they would ask, they even offered having their vendors stock such repulsive material in the back of their book/magazine section. Great! I will be following up. I really think they will try and do something if more people ask. I also sent an email on their website to let the company as a whole know how I feel. Please do the same!

Target: The manager at Target was another story. He was nice but completely blew me off and said he couldn't do a thing about it and that it had to come from corporate. I just don't buy that he cannot do anything regarding his store and the customer base for his area. Setting that aside I was very annoyed how he knew what he was going to come back with before I was even done talking and that he even threw out the comment, "I have kids too." So I left the store came home and emailed my complaint and also called their 800 number. The email reply I got back was this: Target welcomes everyone to shop in our stores and has a long history of offering a large assortment of merchandise to a wide variety of guests. Blah Blah Blah Though we serve a significant number of families across the country, we also serve many guests with diverse tastes and interests. What is that supposed to mean? Just because I have a small family doesn't mean I don't have diverse tastes or interest. It all comes down to whether or not you have morals. I'm not asking that they completely remove these items (however that would be awesome) I'm just asking them to cover them up so we don't have to see it.

This is my campaign.
Such material objectifies and disrespects women and sends the wrong message to our daughters and our sons. A pornography addiction begins with just a small glimpse that sparks curiosity. Pornography is just as addictive as any illegal drug if not more so. I don't see Target employees rubbing heroine or cigarettes in my children's faces so why is this type of repulsive material being rubbed in the faces of my very innocent and very impressionable children?

I have supplied a direct link on the left sidebar of my blog to email Target and Walmart. Give them feedback and let them know how you feel . Don't forget to talk to your local store managers. Spread the word to your church members, mom groups, family and friends. We can make a difference, there is strength in numbers.

I Am Appalled

I am shocked and appalled in the fact that society is glamorizing pornography. How did it become so acceptable to advertise with nudity? There is no justification for it. Bath and Body Works new marketing is very offensive and I was appalled when I walked into the store and embarrassed I had the boys with me. Kyler immediately pointed out how the woman was not modest. I expressed my concern to the workers and then came home and called their customer service to make a formal complaint. If that is where their marketing is headed I am no longer a customer.

Please if you care at all about teaching values and morals call their 800 number and voice your concern. It only takes a few minutes of your time. We can't just ignore it and hope it goes away.
